Western Decorating Ideas For Bedroom

Bedrooms: Southwestern-Style Master Suite

Warm earth tones are essential to Southwestern-style, which can be seen in this quintessentially Southwestern master suite, including the wall art and carved furniture.

Bedrooms: Buffalo Check and Cattle Accent

While buffalo check originated back East, it is named for actual buffalo, which once roamed the West. In this bedroom, a black-and-white buffalo check duvet gives a classic feel, while the wire longhorn art piece and leather hat lend a cowboy vibe. The hanging hammock chair nods to California boho, another Western style.

Bedrooms: Red Southwestern Blanket Twin Beds

Large, heavy antlers make a strong visual impact in this lodge-style bedroom. Southwestern-style bedding and artwork complete the look.

Bedrooms: Contemporary With a Southwestern Touch

Western decor doesn't have to be country or rustic. In this clean and contemporary bedroom, an upholstered armchair in a red Southwestern stripe adds just a dose of color and personality.

Bedrooms: Guest Bedroom With Simple Wood Furnishings

Though simple in style, this Santa Fe guest bedroom feels extra cozy with its reclaimed wood ceiling, plush white bed and light wood furnishings. A skylight, recessed lighting and a pair of sconces keep the space as bright as possible.

Bedrooms: Chevron Wood Wall Master Suite

Tasked with turning an open loft space into a comfortable master suite in a condo in San Francisco's Potrero Hill, Studio Revolution chose to call attention to the space's architectural quirks rather than hide them. Wood set in a chevron pattern creates an inviting feature wall with the rusticity of the design balanced by the clean lines of the leather headboard, the contemporary nightstands and the wallpaper covering the closet wall.

Bedrooms: Modern California Bohemian

A white wall and white bed linens create a beautifully bright scene in this master bedroom. Patterned throw pillows placed with layers of white pillows add color to the bed and a bohemian influence to the look. Mounted gold sconces frame a plexiglass printed ocean photograph.

Bedrooms: Neutral Southwestern Bedroom With Buffalo Art

A graphic pillow in two shades of turquoise and two large buffalo prints are all this space needs to feel a little bit Western.

Bedrooms: Colorful Girl's Room Inspired by Arizona Desert

Pops of pink, coral and yellow abound in this boho-chic bedroom, capturing the vibrant colors of the Arizona desert at sunset. Shiplap walls, wood floors and neutral curtains ensure that the space will grow with the little girl.

Bedrooms: Modern White With Bold Red Textiles

Colorful textiles are essential to Western style, whether muted earth tones or bright hues, as in this white bedroom outfitted with red pillows and throws. City views add decoration to the room without the need of traditional wall art.

Bedrooms: Modern Farmhouse Cabin Look

At home in Nashville, this space fuses Western and Southern style. "We wanted to turn an old barn into a modern farmhouse for my client to host friends and family," says designer Sarah Moore of Sarah Catherine Design. "In this bedroom, we countered the white shiplap walls with some bolder accents like an iron bed, bamboo shades, vintage chest and lots of buffalo check on the bed. I love how the bright walls and natural light coordinate with some of the more rustic features in this space to give it make it feel like a modern farmhouse cabin."

Bedrooms: Green Cactus Wallpaper

It's hard to imagine a motif more obviously Southwestern than cactus, which play a big role in this green-and-white glam bedroom.

Bedrooms: Simple Southwestern Vibes

Off-white walls make it easy to transform the mood of the space with accessories and decor. Here, a two-toned dresser, simple floor lamp and woven rug play into the simple Southwestern aesthetic of the room.

Bedrooms: Bunk Room With Western Personality

Hudson Bay striped blankets were traded throughout the U.S. and Canada in the 1700s and 1800s. In this bunk room, they're mixed with industrial and modern elements for an updated version of classic style. A rustic cowhide rug, layered on top of carpeting, adds unique Western personality.

Bedrooms: Eclectic Boho Nursery

This nursery features style more sophisticated than many grown-up bedrooms. Simple gray walls provide a basic backdrop for interesting art and fun details like the goose lamp. A Southwestern-style throw brings in rich pinks and orange.

Kitchens: Brick Paver Flooring in Guest House Kitchen

In this small kitchen and dining area, ruddy wood tones pair with creamy whites for a bright but warm and natural look. Although the distressed wood cabinets, Spanish tile backsplash and farmhouse sink are all white, their different textures fill this corner with visual interest.

Kitchens: Custom-Painted Art Wall

In this custom showplace, kitchen appliances disappear into the art wall, which adds vibrant color and energy to the non-traditional kitchen. The wall is clad in reclaimed barn wood, and artist Rob Stenberg painted the design on the panels. Touch-latch cabinetry keeps the wall looking more like an art installation than kitchen cabinetry. A custom hemlock block island looks time worn and was fabricated by the homeowner.

Kitchens: Southwestern Kitchen Backsplash

This kitchen pairs simple white appliances with vibrant patterns and textures, like the Southwest-inspired backsplash and the terrazzo countertop.

Kitchens: Pink and White

This kitchen has so much fun with colors and contrast. A pink Southwestern-style rug goes surprisingly well with the floor's geometric pattern. In the cabinetry, glass upper cabinets get a happy pink interior.

Kitchens: Clay Tile Backsplash

Though stainless appliances update this kitchen for the owners, a clay backsplash and terra cotta floors ensure that the space still speaks to the home's traditional adobe architecture. Cabinets on either side of the stove provide plenty of storage, too.

Kitchens: Contemporary With Striking Rug

Often, one textile is the only element needed to give a space of Wild West touch. Owner and designer Sarah Wittenbraker kept her kitchen clean, white and fairly minimalistic — except for that vibrant, graphic rug.

Kitchens: Contemporary Neutral Southwestern Kitchen

No drywall was used in the renovation of this kitchen and living area. Instead, the finished birch ceilings and graphic walls create organic warmth against the metal beams and concrete floor. This space represents a modern, pared-back take on Southwestern style.

Dining Rooms: Formal Adobe With Original Vigas

Vigas are wood ceiling beams in traditional adobe architecture — iconic for the Southwest and particularly New Mexico — and they're the hallmark of this sophisticated dining space. Additionally, a large wood table, ten slipper chairs and a buffet welcome guests.

Dining Rooms: Glass Table and Horse Portrait

Like buffalo and cacti, horses are a motif that gives nod to the West. Here, the style is underscored by leather dining chairs paired with a contemporary glass dining table.

Dining Rooms: Architectural Details

Though remodeled in 1989, this historic Santa Fe home retains many of its original architectural details, including the heavy wood doors and ancient beams seen in the foyer that leads to the dining space. An oversized, sun-washed rug complements the Old World aesthetic and softens the floors.

Dining Rooms: Breakfast Nook With Adobe Fireplace

This Santa Fe breakfast nook is full of interest thanks to clay artwork, painted wall decals and a paisley-printed banquette. An adobe fireplace anchors the far corner and ensures that the room stays warm.

Bathrooms: Soaker Tub With Picture Views

Western style can be both opulent and rustic at the same time. In this master bath, the double slipper copper tub takes center stage, with amazing views of a mountain and surrounding lands through the picture window. Arizona designer Angelica Henry chose antler-printed drapery panels and a pair of pendant lights to soften the space.

Bathrooms: Blue Vanity With Cactus

A light blue vanity and brass pulls are a pretty surprise against this bathroom's black-and-white, mosaic tile floor. A cactus is a fun (if spiky) companion up top.

Bathrooms: Desert Theme

A pocket door divides the two sides of this bathroom; the floor's tile pattern visually unifies them. A desert theme is carried through both spaces via the sandy-colored cabinets, the rug and cactus accents — both in the artwork and the real live plant.

Bathrooms: Carved Mirrors, Matching Vanity

This master bathroom looks especially grand with its hand-carved mirrors, elongated vanity with his-and-her sinks and bathtub defined by stone columns. Artisan pieces, especially wood carving, are seen often in Western decor.

Bathrooms: Beautiful Blue Tiles

This bathroom is full of beautiful colors and patterns thanks to Mexican influence, which is pervasive in Southwestern and Californian design. Painted and glazed tiles make up the backsplash and countertop. The sink is painted ceramic and the mirror has a delicate painted pattern as well.

Bathrooms: Traditional Tub in Two-Toned Bathroom

A traditional tub, pin-striped shower curtain, penny tile floors and bold artwork complement the Pacific blue wall tiles in this historic-meets-modern bath. A red Southwestern-style rug adds a contrasting pop of color to this bathroom space.

Bathrooms: Decorative Southwestern Tile Countertop

A collection of patterned Mexican tiles covers this bathroom countertop, while a single row of green tiles extends up the wall to transition the countertop to a wood framed mirror. Paired with simple wood cabinetry and a white sink, the tile is the star.

Living Spaces: Big Texas Style

The Junk Gypsies brought in color here by painting the staircase wall bright blue and hanging a large American flag. Comfortable leather furniture with festive pillows welcomes guests to sit and relax. A Native American style rug brings warmth and an atmosphere of the American West. A glittery silver eagle hangs above a sitting area with wrought iron chairs under the staircase, and large gold wings welcome guests at the entryway.

Living Spaces: A Texas Touch

A pair of smaller cube ottomans covered in a grid pattern fabric sit under a shell white curved-top console table just off a great room's seating area. Large custom art by artist Celery Jones hangs above and brings the scenic Texas landscape inside. Cowboy boots add a quintessential Texan touch.

Living Spaces: Rustic Stairs and Red Rug

A series of staircases stay connected to this house via open railings and stairwells. The bold red-and-black runner rug leads the eye through the space.

Living Spaces: Chic Console and Cowhide Ottomans

Faux cowhide ottomans add cool cowboy style to this otherwise modern and sleek foyer.

Living Spaces: Bracero Hat Display

This installation of vintage Bracero hats hangs in the stairway between the first and second floor of a Mexican-inspired restaurant. The display, paired with a rustic wood dresser and mounted metal horse heads, creates an overwhelming sense of authenticity. Braceros were Mexican laborers who worked fields particularly in California during WWII when American laborers were fighting overseas.

Living Spaces: Eclectic Entry Hall

The second home for a couple based in L.A., this two-story penthouse in Seattle easily reflects their edgy tastes. In the entry hall, for example, 5-foot-long chainmaille chandeliers make quite the impact, while a photo set of Bob Marley offers a glimpse of the rare art that's featured across the home.

Living Spaces: Midcentury Cabinet and Horse Photo

Leanne Ford is an expert at creating texturally interesting tableaus. Here, a wooden midcentury modern cabinet gets topped by a photograph and two sculptural objects, as seen on HGTV's Restored by the Fords.

Living Spaces: Old Santa Fe

Giving a 200-year-old home in historic Old Santa Fe, New Mexico, a clean, contemporary look — without sacrificing its authentic character — is a challenge the designers at Samuel Design don't take lightly. To strike just the right note, they worked with a light touch, allowing the lines of the architecture to guide them, and keeping the color palette quiet, introducing a few high spots of warm color and rich texture through accessories and artwork.

Living Spaces: Funky Music Room With Western Vibe

Hanging guitars on the wall lets the instruments be part of the artwork in this eclectic music room. A variety of textiles in rugs and pillows lend a free-spirited, Western vibe.

Living Spaces: Hand-Painted, Antique Door

This historic, adobe-style home is full of surprises, including a painted door tucked in one of the many hallways. With its saturated colors, swirling designs and antique locks, this piece is less of a fixture and more of a focal point.

Living Spaces: Cowboy Hats, and More Cowboy Hats

A niche just off this great room's lounge area includes a rustic cabinet for storage of books and decorative accessories, with a collection of classic cowboy hats hanging as art on the wall above.

Living Spaces: Adobe Fireplace

You won't find many empty corners in this historic Santa Fe home; instead, all of its nooks and crannies are filled with interesting architectural details, like adobe-style fireplaces and carved statues. In this living space, an oil painting and antique candelabras complement the more traditional elements.

Living Spaces: A Desert Sanctuary

This she shed has a desert sanctuary theme. "I'm authentically drawn to the colors jade and coral, so I tied those in where possible," says the owner. "As an earthy, crunchy Scorpio, I am inspired by elements of nature, so you'll find cactus plants, live edge teak wood, white moonstones, selenite and quartz, a eucalyptus ladder, jute rug, kilim pillows and linen draperies."

Living Spaces: Kiva Fireplace With Banco Seats

This fireplace with banco seats was finished using American clay mixed with straw to give the appearance of unfinished cobb adobe. The Saltillo tile floors were stained dark to make them look aged.

Living Spaces: Bright, Bohemian-Style Sitting Area

This sitting area is boho chic with layers of colorful fabrics and pillows, a basket for storage and a richly textured wall hanging.

Living Spaces: Woodsy Wallpaper

Designer Jenny Norris made a statement in the library with woodsy black and white wallpaper. A midcentury modern chaise is layered with Southwestern-style pillows and a flokati throw for an invitingly soft spot.

Living Spaces: Southwestern-Style Living Room With Adobe Fireplace

Taking cues from the owner's oriental rug, the designers chose a warm color palette of rust red, cream and pale blue for this living room in a Santa Fe home. Plush pillows, thick throws and an adobe fireplace in the corner make the space feel especially cozy.

Living Spaces: Gallery-Worthy With Bold Blocks of Color

The genius design of this space makes it feel like a work of modern art. Natural creamy white walls and wood beams are punctuated by bold blocks of color: emerald green curtains and a bright blue painted cabinet.

Living Spaces: Funky Desert Style

The stone wall of the living room helps provide texture to the space while bringing in the colors of the desert landscape. Bold, colorful textiles, a cowhide rug and a longhorn-inspired chair make it fun and funky.

Living Spaces: Wagon Wheel Chandelier and Animal Skin Rug

This equestrian-themed living room area features a faux animal skin rug, a wide beige sofa with abundant throw pillows, two wood-and-leather armchairs, a glass coffee table and a wagon-wheel chandelier.

Living Spaces: Midcentury Cool With Gold Accent Table

This living room's vast size and high ceilings give space for the widely varying patterns and textures to work nicely together. The gold end table adds a little glam.

Living Spaces: Midcentury With Paneled Ceiling

Many of the wood-paneled rooms in this cabin had a dark, cramped feel, so to lighten the look, designers painted the redwood walls white. The ceilings were left exposed to show off the beautiful natural tones of the famous California redwood.

Living Spaces: Contemporary Neutral With Cowhide Ottoman

A faintly rustic feel is given to this living room by the exposed wood beams on the ceiling and the playful cowhide ottoman. Sunlight pours in from two walls full of windows.

Living Spaces: Minimalist With Wood and Textile Accents

This simple living room features an all-over white palette with medium grain wood accents, including the trim used to frame three interior windows that provide a peek at the adjacent kitchen. A Southwestern wall hanging is positioned above the fireplace, adding a pop of festive color.

Living Spaces: White Southwestern-Style Living Room With Blue Sofa

Painting the vaulted wood ceiling white helps bounce the natural light all round this California living room and allows the bright, festive colors in the rug and furniture to shine.

Living Spaces: Gypsy Treehouse

The Junk Gypsies brought bohemian style to this treehouse living room using a glitter covered carnival star, a funky Edison lamp and colorful pillows.

Living Spaces: Neutral Family Room Shines With Sunny Yellow Curtains

In the family room, bright yellow curtains and bold, patterned pillows help make this neutral space pop. The red hues seen in the Southwestern-style throw pillows add a nice punch of color to the space.

Outdoors: Relaxing Back Porch With Boho-Style Swing Chairs

On the back porch, a pair of swinging daybeds topped with kilim pillows add a playful, laid-back feel to the space creating the perfect spot for relaxing. For additional seating, colorful butterfly-style chairs face the pool and make the space more functional.

Outdoors: Cozy Porch Seating Area

This homey outdoor seating area at Santa Margarita Ranch in central California features rustic wood furniture and a tribal-print rug over beautiful hardwood flooring — the perfect setting for guests to enjoy the coastal ranch vibe.

Outdoors: Front Porch Swing

This front porch's sitting area has boho flair with a porch swing, wall hanging and cozy textiles in a mix of patterns, including a Mexican-style blanket. The swing is the same creamy white as the porch's trim.

Outdoors: Modern Backyard Includes Succulent Garden

A modern chair and Southwestern-style throw invites guests to make themselves at home by the pool. Large cacti and succulents layer the landscape, adding greenery and interest to this enchanting outdoor space.

Outdoors: Rustic Desert Oasis

Grand gates lead into a Southwestern-inspired patio with an adobe-style fireplace. A serene "rusting" steel-tub water feature transforms the space into a meditation area.
